Was lovely walking past all the gardens. The roses are I full bloom, irises are finished, the trees still fresh green. Tall stands of cornflowers decorated sunny spots. They call them Batchelor's Buttons here. Whatever the name it was good to see them again.
On my way back I disturbed a young deer who was only about 2 m off the footpath at 11am. Ever garden has a deer here, I am told. So Lymes disease is rife.
I joined a group of old Warerford Weavers, Anna, Vad, Marilyn and Paula, for lunch. They are busy making stuff to sell, still. The prison in Lorton was closed due to overcrowding 10 years ago and handed over to a local arts and historical group who have somewhat mismanaged it so it is hardly surviving. But several members formed a coop to rent one of the historic buildings, the workhouse, to use as a shop/studio. WWG will also man the corner store in Waterford on Fridays when it opens as a gallery next week.
After a nap and inspection of Jo's purchases from Potomac Mills, we went to McLean for dinner at Vim and Charles'. There were 2 Australians, 2 Chileans, 2 USians, 2 Canadians (whose daughter lives in Toowong, Brisbane) a Irishman and a Sri Lankan. . . . A pretty typical ex Bank gathering. And, as Vim was cooking, delicious and outside in their "English" garden.
